You may have been wondering where I have been since it's been awhile since you've seen a post. Well, I've been coming up with a new blog creation that I hope you'll all enjoy a bit more. I realize I do well with instructions and themes, so my new blog deals with certain themes, but a different one each day. It's slightly easier for me to write and keep me in line to be more creative and post more often. So far, I'm pretty in love with it and hope that you will be too. "Life's Lemons & Limes" has been good, but it might just serve as a mere stepping stone to becoming better at this whole blogging thing. How have I not discovered this until yesterday? Seriously, this page is great. If you don't already have it for yourself, I definitely recommend it. I already use Google calendar avidly, and now I have so many more gadgets to play with. Also you can customize it to your liking. It's so fun and useful, I love it!

A Quick Tip

This is just a quick clue in to something I've found very helpful. Over the past few years, I've purchased a few Women's Health magazines and they all come with good workouts to do at home or the gym. Well, I hate working out at home and I always forget them when I'm at the gym. So I cut them all out and pasted them into a spiral notebook I had lying around and it's the perfect gym companion. That way, you have lots of workouts to choose from and you can remember things that you may have forgot. Also, you can use remaining pages for keeping track of your workouts or putting in the great recipes that WH has to offer. It's been so useful, I just thought I would pass on the news!

So, this is Brandon Flowers. He is the lead singer of The Killers (who I love), but is trying some stuff on his own. This is his first single called "Crossfire" that I heard for the first time today. And then I heard it again later. I have to say, I'm not sure how I feel about it. So I'm asking your opinion. What do you think?

At first I liked it. It seemed genuine. But then when I heard it again I felt it kind of channeled Bryan Adams a little and belonged in an early 90's movie. I'm just not sure. It could be one of those songs that grows on me. Or it could be one where I change the station...Bah!

This song is #2 on my top 25 most played list in iTunes. I absolutely love it still after listening to it for a couple years. The first few instrumental measures just tug at my heart strings and the story is heartbreaking, but so enticing. It's pretty much amazing.

Reading List

These are the books I plan to pour through this summer whenever the sun decides to come out.

1. The Fountainhead - Ayn Rand: I've had this one on my list for a long time. Pretty much ever since I finished her other book. Her writing is so amazing and her stories bring up such interesting philosophy. I can't wait to see what this one is about.

2. Out Stealing Horses - Per Petterson: When I was younger, I had a big thing for horses, so this book caught my eye. Then I read the summary and it sounded really interesting and from a different point of view so I added it to my list.

3. Eat Pray Love - Elizabeth Gilbert: Not gonna lie, I was totally hesitant about reading this book. But given my current state of life and my new found love for travel, I've decided to give this one a shot.

4. Road Dogs - Elmore Leonard: I randomly came across this book while at B&N. I'm very attracted to book covers (yes, I do judge books by their covers) and I read the summary and it has to do with Cuban culture as well as a mysterious story, so I'm hoping it will go along with my love for stories in other (Spanish-speaking) locations!

Movie List

These are the movies I will go see when the weather stinks.

1. The A-Team: Basically a two hour movie with a shirtless Bradley Cooper. That's all I need really...

2. Toy Story 3: I am so excited they made another one! I love these films and this one looks just as good as the other two. I can't wait.

3. The Twilight Saga: Eclipse: This movie is coming out on midnight of my best friend's birthday, and this is her activity of choice. I can't not go! Besides, it couldn't possibly be any worse than the last one, right?

4. MacGruber: I can't believe I haven't seen this yet to be honest. SNL stars and written/directed by members of The Lonely Island...winner.

After much, much listening of the brand new album from The National, I've picked "Afraid of Everyone" as my favorite track. There's just something very haunting and moving about the end when he sings "Your voice is swallowing my soul, soul, soul". Here is them performing this track on David Letterman. I cannot wait to see these guys in September. I can only imagine how moving they'll be in person. Buy their album!

Love/Hate Relationship

I love living in Seattle......most of the time. There really is everything here. Lakes and oceans, fun bars, great food and a huge sports scene. I was talking to one of my friends who mentioned that people who grow up in Seattle never want to leave. But honestly, I don't think that's me. Lately I've been thinking more and more about moving and exploring myself in another place.

The one thing I cannot stand, especially right now, is the weather. I feel like every year my Seasonal Affective Disorder gets worse and worse. It's almost June and I look outside and it's still gray. Gray skies, gray mood. Seriously, I feel like Eeyore. I wish the weather didn't affect me so much, but I think it affects a lot of people. When the sun is out, you just feel so great! Every year, we Seattleites joke that the summer weather comes on July 5th, but that's not always the case and is it too much to ask for it to come early!?

I've been working for UW this week and had to visit campus a few times and it really makes me think about going back to school. It's a pretty exciting feeling and will begin a new adventure. The school that I'm most interested in is in San Fransisco and I think that will be an excellent transition from Seattle. It's pretty much Seattle, but with better weather. While going back to school is a big commitment, it's possible I may be ready for that sometime in the next two years. It'll be tough to give up being here in the fall to root for my football teams (honestly I'm trying to devise a plan to fly back for games), but I think overall it will definitely be a huge benefit and so much fun!

I love Seattle, but I feel like I've seen it all (or most of it). I don't want to miss out on anything. What else is out there?

Lost Finale Party

On Sunday, my brother and I were lucky enough to get to attend a Lost finale party put on by 107.7 The End at Gold Class Cinemas. Being the trivia buff I am, I managed to answer a Lost trivia question correctly therefore putting my name on the VIP list. I have to say, this party was amazing and definitely a perfect way to say goodbye to a perfect show.

107.7 and Gold Class hooked us up! I was so amazed at how well they treated their guests and how plush the theater was. They had these big reclining chairs with a small table in between. We were given two drink tickets at the door, good for beer, wine, wells or one of the special Lost themed drinks the theater came up with! I chose an Oceanic Breeze for one of my drinks. It was delicious. Also, we were each given a choice of appetizer and entree on the house! We chose to have Caesar spears, basically a deconstructed Caesar salad, for our appetizer. I think it was actually a creative way to serve it and I might do that just to get myself to eat more lettuce. Then for our entree we got to pick between a Cuban sandwich and a chicken piccata. I went for the Cuban of course. We enjoyed all these while watching the recap with the lights up and were able to chat with some others, but when the finale finally came on, the lights went out and everyone stayed very quiet and enthralled. We even got popcorn for dessert!

I was so excited and had so much fun at the event and, although I was very sad about the ending of Lost, I was very pleased with the way it finished. Although my brother and I still have different ideas about what it actually all meant! I know I'm right. Ha ha. I'll miss that show for sure. Thanks again to 107.7 The End and Gold Class Cinemas. Make-up vs No Make-up

Every now and then I love getting dressed up. Putting on nice clothes, my MK heels and glamming up with some fancy make-up styles. But on normal days, I usually wont put on more than some bronzer and a bit of mascara. I like being natural and, hey, it's so much more comfortable. I like being able to rub my eye without worrying about smearing anything.

However, three times in the last week I have been mistaken for a high school age student! Someone asked me if I was the person who they had just seen in the Ballard High School talent show. Um, NO! I'm a college grad thank-you-very-much. And last night I was helping out my aunt and bartending for her at a party she was throwing. One woman asked me if I was old enough to be doing it. Then being drunk was mentioned and another woman said "You're too young to be drunk." Seriously? First of all, if my aunt was okay with someone underage serving, she would have asked one of her kids. And do I really look that young when I'm not made up? I'm not sure why it bothers me so much, but it does. At least I wasn't the 45 year old woman in a party top. No joke, there was a woman at this party who was wearing a top that one of my sorority sisters would have worn to a frat party our freshman year. AND she had raccoon eyes. As in way too much black eyeliner surrounding her eyes. Does that really look better than au naturale? No. No it doesn't.

Looking Back One Year

It's amazing to think that one year ago today I was embarking on a journey that has completely changed my life. And while plans didn't necessarily pan out like they were supposed to, today is when I emotionally left for the amazing country of Chile.

Imagine spending weeks preparing for a big trip, packing, running errands, making sure you have everything, etc. Then the day finally comes when it's time to leave. You get up early, get yourself ready, say goodbye to everyone and head off to the airport. Only to find out that your first flight is delayed therefore preventing you from catching your next two flights. Man, that was not the best day. I was so excited to leave and get to Chile a day before orientation and spend time with the other people in my program. But no, I was forced to wait a whole other day! Moral of the story: Don't fly United Airlines.

However, when the next day came and I made my flights and made it to Santiago, it was such an amazing feeling. I can't believe a whole year has passed already. I miss it every day.

This weather we're having in Seattle is a bit strange. I remember waking up to sun yesterday. Then while I was at the gym, all of a sudden I look outside and it was dark and cloudy. Then I'm driving to pick up my grandpa up north and it's POURING!! Seriously, the rain was beating down on my car so loud, I couldn't even hear my radio. And those who know me, know my radio is always turned up to a high volume. This weather totally reminds me of "Winnie-the-Pooh and the Blustery Day". Has anyone else read/seen that? It was a favorite of mine when I was a kid. Who knows? Maybe our houses will flood and we'll be forced to travel by upside-down umbrella to visit each other. And if someone is stranded, they'll have to send a message in a bottle. Sometimes I think it would have been fun to live in the Hundred Acre Wood. Awesome.

Malena's Tacos

Whenever I don't know what to have for dinner, I always lean towards Malena's Tacos. It's a small little shop on the top of Queen Anne and it is delicious! My favorite is the adobada burrito (pork) and of course add extra guacamole because I love it. The ingredients are very fresh and the salsa is probably the best I've ever had. The price is right for how much you get. Really, you can't go wrong here. Try it out!

This song was just world premiered today. It's Muse's new song called "Neutron Star Collision (Love is Forever)" that will be featured on the Twilight Saga: Eclipse soundtrack. While I always feel it is important to state that I loved Muse WAY before the Twilight hype, I still think the songs fit well into the stories and this new one is pretty awesome. Enjoy!

Weekend Rewind

This weekend was a pretty epic start to summer. And it goes as follows:

Friday night, some of my girls and I went to a birthday party for a friend. The party was being hosted on an old ferry boat out of Harbor Island and had an appropriate "I'm On A Boat" theme. Basically a dream of mine since we all know how much I like that song and The Lonely Island. Plus, I was super psyched because I already had an outfit, given I used to work on boats. (Don't worry people, I covered up the logo of my shirt with a pin...and my hair.) But it was pretty sweet when someone told me I had the best outfit of the night.

The funny thing was, I was the only one with an actual boat uniform. The crew didn't even have them! I thought that was a little sketch and was glad there wasn't an emergency as I probably would have been the first one everyone came to for help. Ha ha!

But it was definitely a solid night full of dancing and one that took almost all of Saturday to recover from. Totally a good time and one I wouldn't mind recreating for one of my birthdays! Although, I would use my old company of course.

Sunday was the Alpha Delta Pi Founder's Day celebration at the chapter house. I was real glad it was there because I hadn't seen it since the remodel. Let's just say it made me pretty jealous that the remodel didn't take place when I was there. But it also made the event more personal and short and to the point. Not gonna lie, when it's at a different venue, it tends to drag on sometimes. But it was really nice seeing a lot of the sisters and hopefully I can get more involved with the chapter again.

Hope more fun weekends are to follow! I am so happy that summer is almost here!

When I first heard this song, I checked to make sure I was on my usual radio station. I said, "This sounds like a really old song..." And it totally does! But the more I hear it, the more I like it. It's called "Home" by Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros. It kinda takes you back to the simpler days with few instruments and only a bonfire and some flowy skirts. Low and behold, the video also takes you there as well. It's a perfect song to get the summer started.

So, I've had three pieces of exciting music news today. Okay, two today and one earlier this week, but they all deserve to come out today and not wait to be spaced out over a few weeks so here they are!

A First Listen: The National's High Violet
This is the much anticipated new album from The National that will be released on May 11 (exactly 4 months before I see them in Seattle). The whole album is currently streaming on NPR's website and you can listen to it in its entirety here! I already am totally in love with it.

A new Band of Horses Single
Their second track released from their new album Infinite Arms is called "Laredo" and is now being played on air. You can also, of course, listen to it here.

MTV2 Premiers Silversun Pickups' "The Royal We" Video
We all know how much I LOVE these guys. And this video is really cool. It's very artistic and has an interesting story behind it. It's hard to describe really, so you'll just have to check it out on the MTV2 website here.

I found out today that The National is coming back to Seattle in September!!! I've been regretting not getting a ticket to Sasquatch because I couldn't imagine not seeing them, but I am relieved to say that I don't have to feel bad anymore. I will see them anyway! I just have to wait a bit longer. Now I just have to wait for Silversun Pickups to post their Seattle tour date and I'll be a very happy girl. Yay!

Two-fer Tuesday

Here's a throw (waaaay) back! Lately, the Hallmark movie channel (channel 500 for Comcast customers) has been playing old Disney classics that my family and I used to watch when I was still in single digits. The best ones so far have been "That Darn Cat" and "Blackbeard's Ghost", both really funny and actually still enjoyable even now!

"That Darn Cat" is about a cat who gets caught up in a kidnapping scandal and becomes an informant for the FBI, whose agents have to follow him around at night to see if he leads them to the kidnappers. "Blackbeard's Ghost" is about an old pirate who haunts an old hotel, but only one person can see him, which leads to a lot of weird happenings that no one can explain.

Both are totally worth checking out and making you feel like a kid again. Did anyone else watch them when they were kids?

Has Anyone Been Here?

I have been wanting to go to this restaurant for a long time now. I only wish I had found out about it before my birthday so I could have chosen it for my family dinner location. I'm hoping that I don't have to wait until my next birthday to go! Barrio describes themselves as "an approachable and inviting representation of modern Mexico" with two locations, one on Capitol Hill and one in Bellevue. After looking at their menu, I was excited to see that they have some of my favorite dishes that I ate in Chile such as cazuela, chorizo, escabeche and, yes, PISCO for drinks. Book Review: Drown

After reading "The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao" and absolutely loving it, I had to check out Junot Diaz's other books. This book features 10 short stories about living in the Dominican Republic. I didn't like it as much as "Oscar", I still really enjoy Diaz's story telling. He really pulls you into characters and it's always interesting to me to read about other types of lifestyles. Again, he mixes his stories with English and Spanish and I love it. As dark as some of the stories are, the way he describes the DR really makes me want to visit it someday. It seems like a very interesting place. I really enjoyed these stories and Diaz is definitely up there on my favorite authors list. Check out any of his stuff.

Positivity

Lately, things haven't necessarily been going my way. As bad as it could suck, things could always get worse. But I need to put out some positive energy. Most people hate Mondays, and usually I do too, but today I'm listing things that I like about Mondays to make me look forward to it rather than dread it.

- New York Times Crossword, it's easiest on Monday so you can feel real smart!

- How I Met You're Mother, I love this show and I get a double whammy because it's on prime time as well as new episodes are added to On Demand so I can catch up on seasons I haven't seen yet.

- Employers are in their offices and more jobs start to be posted, so there is more of a chance that I'm going to get some good job vibes, hopefully schedule interviews and I can feel productive when I actually have positions to apply to.

- Music Monday, clearly my favorite blog entries cause music is my favorite.

Daydreaming...

I have a lot of time on my hands, and while sometimes daydreaming of my perfect apartment sucks because the reality is kind of far off, I do it anyways. I was at home eating dinner this evening...weird to say "I was at home" cause usually I live there, but I'm house sitting this weekend...but anyway, I found the CB2 catalog and started picking things to put in my apartment when the time comes.

Label Glasses: I really like these glasses in a cute kid kind of way. They remind me of being young and drinking juice and I just imagine them to be very fun to drink out of during breakfast. Plus they're so colorful and I like when things don't always match.

Crossroads Bookshelf: When I'm older I want to have a whole library in my home. I don't think I have quite enough books in my collection for that yet, but I at least want to have enough room to display the ones I have. Dessert To Die For

On Thursday, I was hanging with a couple girlfriends and we were having a nice complaining session, which usually leads to the need for some delicious something. Luckily my friend lives about half a block away from the Blu Water Bistro on Greenlake and they feature some excellent desserts. I'm a simpleton when it comes to dessert, anything with chocolate or ice cream I'll be happy with. Luckily here, they have a great dish that combines the two. A large skillet-cooked Tollhouse chocolate chip cookie topped with two scoops of vanilla ice cream. Man, was it delicious. Nice and warm and not quite cooked all the way so it was the perfect soft consistency. Mixed with the cold vanilla ice cream made it heaven. Delicious. Will definitely go back for this again.

A Double War Whammy

The Hurt Locker

After taking some of the more prestigious Academy Awards, my family decided that it was probably a good idea to check out this movie. I have to say that I thought it was amazing. It was the perfect match of story line, character development and intensity. And explosions. (Come on, don't tell me you thought he disarmed ALL the bombs.) I can't say exactly cause obviously I haven't experienced it, but I thought it was a good representation of these peoples' lives. Or at least a very interesting one. It really puts you into their shoes and gives you a look at how difficult a life of war is. Also, there is something to be said about movies without a real soundtrack. I mean, obviously I LOVE music, but in this kind of movie, the lack of music increases the intensity and really makes you pay attention to what is going on. Kind of like what Alfred Hitchcock did with "The Birds". He thought it made it scarier without music. Same with this movie. You're just sitting at the edge of your seat for the majority of the film. I don't want to give away the plot to those who haven't seen it yet, but I definitely recommend it. Kathryn Bigelow definitely deserved her award.

Brothers

This movie was completely different than I thought it was going to be. The way they advertised it in the trailers is a bit misleading, but I guess that is okay because you get a story you didn't think you would. It was an interesting surprise. I again don't want to give too much away, but instead of being a story about a woman's struggle choosing between two brothers, it was more about a man's struggle coming back from war. I can't say this was an amazing movie. I thought it ran a bit slow at times and some scenes were a little lengthy. Also it was really stressful at times when you're waiting for things to happen and they don't! But it was all part of the experience. Again, it puts you in a realistic story about those who return from war and what they have to deal with. My family watched this the night after we watched "The Hurt Locker" so we were a little stressed out seeing two intense war movies in a row! But overall if you enjoy these types of stories, I would recommend it.

EPIC. It's the only word I have been able to think of to describe the show I saw on Friday night at Key Arena. So much so that I had to recover all weekend and couldn't muster up the energy to write this post until now. The show featured Silversun Pickups and Muse. Two of my favorite bands of all time. (If only Incubus was there too...) But seriously, I think this had to be the best show I've ever seen. So far anyway. While I was a bit bummed out that I missed some of Silversun Pickups, I learned that it might not be too long before I see them again, and from what I saw, they were incredible. I heard mixed reviews about them playing live, but they did not disappoint. When I heard this show was going to be at Key Arena, I was not exactly too excited. I've been going to a lot of smaller venue shows lately and really enjoying them. I think the last band I saw at Key Arena was `Nsync. (I know that wasn't judgement that just went through your mind...) Honestly, I totally forgot that in a big venue, you don't just get a concert, you get a show! A show complete with sets, lights, screens, other visual effects, just the works! It started with these three structures that looked like buildings and before we knew it they were stairways, they were eyeballs, they were people. I mean, these things turned into everything. The bottom halves of the "towers" served as platforms that could rise and lift the performers, which was really nice, especially for the shorter kids in the audience.

They only played a 45 minute set at Deck the Hall Ball back in December, so I was excited to see more of an array of their music in this much longer concert. Of course they started out with their high energy hits such as "Uprising" and "The Resistance" to get the crowd really amped and involved. Towards the middle of the show, they calmed things down and played a few of their more mellow hits. However, even their more mellow hits have some intense, loud guitar parts as well. By loud, I mean LOUD! But we got to see the most badass piano ever that lights up depending on the notes or chords he was playing. People were mesmerized by that thing, no joke. Then at the end of the show, it was time to go out with a bang and they picked things back up again. They even included giant eyeballs that they pushed down from the ceiling into the audience. Totally random and unorthodox, but added character to the show.

The encore was probably my favorite part of the whole show. They finished with three final songs, the first being "Unnatural Selection" (I think? I honestly can't remember. I was too excited.) That particular song is a bit slower, but they followed up with "Stockholm Syndrome" which is one of my all time favorites of theirs and probably the most high energy ever. My friend Sara said, "This is the song that makes me want to be a rockstar." It was absolutely amazing. Note: If you're at a Muse concert and they haven't played "Knights of Cydonia" then you know it ain't over yet. That song is another one of their most powerful and audience entertaining. It's the perfect closer and the one everyone waits to sing along with.

On a scale of 1-10, the show gets a 179. It was absolutely incredible. Muse really is the best band to see live. Even if you're not the biggest fan of their recorded music, they are so much better in the flesh. So if you ever get the chance in your lifetime, DO IT. It is worth every cent.

Music Monday

Aside from the fact that a) I love Andy Samberg and The Lonely Island and b) I think SNL Digital Shorts are amazing, I actually think this song is pretty legit. Obviously not quite as legit as "I'm On A Boat" that got a Grammy nom, but I love this one as well. I've started playing it while getting ready and it's super fun to jam out to. I think Julian Casablancas has an amazing voice and plan to purchase some of his stuff. The song on the album is actually longer than the video, so if you haven't already, you should also purchase The Lonely Island's album "Incredibad". Do it. Now.

Restaurant Review

On Friday night, we headed out for a little family dinner at a quaint little Italian restaurant in the Wallingford neighborhood. The place is called Cantinetta and the company owns a few little restaurants around town. This is the second one I've been to (the first being How To Cook A Wolf on Queen Anne) and I have to say it is definitely the better one. While it was a bit of a wait, it was easy to understand. It is a popular place and we were there at 6:15 on a Friday night. At first it was slightly weird standing around the bar area, but the bartender made sure to pay attention to us, even though we weren't right up against the bar. Also there is a small partition, so even if you have someone in your party that is under 21, you can still wait in the area and have a drink. Once we got our table, we were served with some tasty olive bread (and I don't even like olives). My mom had been here before, so she recommended that we all start with a salad because the plates were small portions. I got spring greens with a balsamic dressing, while others had a roasted radicchio with a syrup dressing. It proved a little hard to cut, but I tasted it and thought it was pretty yummy. For my entree, I chose Tagliatelle pasta with clams. (Note: If there is something on the menu with seafood, you're almost guaranteed I will order it.) It was really delicious and very light weight. Also, all the dishes were served in smaller portions, which I rather like because you can have a whole meal and still feel good, not stuffed. We all ended with a little bit of gelato which was of course delicious. How can you screw up gelato?? Overall I really enjoyed the food. The atmosphere was very small and open and therefore created a lot of noise, sometimes making it hard to hear. And I'm glad we didn't get seated in the table right inside the door. I am more drawn to more private eating areas, but I would recommend this place for the great food and wine. They don't take reservations for parties under six so be prepared to wait, but you wont be sorry.

I could not be more excited that my Huskies are in the Sweet Sixteen that kicks off today with four games. Here are my predictions that I will not necessarily be standing true to:

WEST VIRGINIA: Negate this. Although this is what I picked on my bracket, I a) will NOT be rooting for them b) no longer believe they will win and c) could care less about my bracket at this point.
SYRACUSE: Okay, so I care a little. I picked them to win it all, so I hope they win. Also I just really like Syracuse.
KANSAS STATE: Even though Xavier pulled off a good win last week, I don't think they'll do it again.
KENTUCKY: Cornell has been killing it. I'm almost hoping they do it again so that the Huskies will play them after their win today instead of the hyped up Kentucky. On the "my bracket still matters" side, I have Kentucky in the final two....

Andy Visits The House

Why hasn't Jason Segel hosted SNL yet??? I mean, he is hilarious! For one, this picture speaks for itself. And two, the fact that he can write great stuff himself like "Forgetting Sarah Marshall"...that should merit an invite right away. Just think, he can write a great monologue about his perfect lady and it turns out he's describing a puppet. Or he brings his "girlfriend" on a double date and it's a puppet. Seriously, something with puppets. So much material right there. He'd probably be ballin' in an SNL Digital Short as well. He's super musical (in case you didn't know, he actually did write that Dracula musical in real life) and he's friends with Andy after shooting "I Love You, Man". Why not hook this up guys? Let's get on this.

Jet w/ Crash Kings @ The Showbox

After the fantastic show from Crash Kings at the Snoqualmie Casino, I couldn't NOT buy a ticket for their later show at The Showbox. I was considering doing it anyways, and they definitely convinced me with their performance. I didn't get enough and wanted to see more. They were just as good the second time around! They are so energetic on stage and so much fun to watch. I saw this guy in front of me typing on his Blackberry after they finished saying "Crash Kings were ok. Earplugs are awesome." What is this guy thinking!?!? Okay? Just okay? I mean, meatloaf is "okay". This is live music we're talking about. They were nothing short of amazing!! I can't even pick a favorite song they did, because they were all insane. Plus they interact with the audience and at one point changed up their set just to please some of the fans. Like I said before, nice guys. Then they introduced Jet, saying they were one of the best live bands in the world. Since I was already convinced that I love them, I trust them as well so I was very psyched to see Jet.

Before Jet came on stage, they intro-ed themselves with bongo music. Winners already! Then they rushed on stage with so much energy and never let up during the whole show. They went from one song to the other almost without stopping the entire show. Now, I know concerts are supposed to be loud, but these guys probably almost blew the roof off. They got the crowd so hyped, I was glad to be confined in the bar area so I didn't get a punch to the face in the mosh pit. I noticed that Jet songs are so different because they switch tempos and paces in a few of their songs, but it totally works. It was kind of funny because people would be clapping along, and then the whole song would change and throw everyone off. But I really liked it. My favorite performance they did was of their song "Lazy Gun" from their first album that I haven't listened to in ages. But it transferred to a live performance so well, especially with the echo setting on the mic. They definitely were really awesome live and I think the whole audience could agree with me on that.

Endsession w/ Crash Kings

Lucky me! I got to attend another free show put on by 107.7 The End! This show featured Crash Kings and they were amazing!! The venue was a little odd (read my previous post about the casino), but it kind of kept the crowds down and it ended up being a very intimate show. Ok, it was either the venue or the fact that it was 3:00pm on a Tuesday. Aah, the perks of being unemployed. Maybe just the one perk. Anyway, there was about three rows worth of people, and I got front and center! I snapped some good photos of the stage pre-show, but unfortunately, no photos were allowed during the show. That was okay though because I couldn't take my eyes off these guys! I was interested to see how a band worked out without a guitarist. Especially cause I swore I could hear guitar in their songs. The dude plays guitar on a piano! Call me stupid, but I had no idea that piano-guitars (complete with whammy bar) existed! Not to mention, he can play his keyboard AND the piano-guitar at the same time. This guy is awesome. They are ALL awesome. This band is fairly new, but are definitely going to be around for awhile. I have to say, I am loving the whole piano rock thing (and it's 100x better than SoCo). I really think these guys could possibly be better live than they are on their album. The Endsession was rather short, but their performance convinced me to drive to the Showbox and purchase a ticket to their show later that evening. Plus I got to meet them and got their autographs. Super nice guys. Check out their self-titled album featuring their hit "Mountain Man". Love them!

Snoqualmie Casino

I took a trip to the Snoqualmie Casino yesterday for a private show (review to follow), and the trip was quite hilarious. I decided to write down my thoughts as I had some spare time before the show. Here is my story.

First of all, I am sitting outside writing and waiting for the time to enter the Crash Kings show and the valet guys are totally staring. Apparently they are not used to girls under the age of 75 being anywhere near this place. Okay, maybe 45, but those ladies look 75 because they are smokers, proven by the fact that they come here because it is one of the only places that allows them to smoke indoors. (And yet I look up and there is a guy on the other bench who came outside to smoke. Nice. Not to mention he is rocking the Canadian tuxedo. Chile flashback!) But seriously, what is the deal with casinos anyway? The only other casino I have been to was in Arica, Chile and that was only because a) it was right next to our hotel, b) it was 5:00am and c) we were hammered. I lost the money I put in and can't imagine being one of these people that come here daily and plays these games. No joke. Some people here look like this is their second home with their feet up on the machines, smoking and drinking like they are at their own home playing video games on their couch. Quite the hobby people. I can only imagine what they must think of us concert goers. Definitely don't fit in with the 75+ crowd. Or anyone else here for that matter. At one point, I actually walked around just to see how many stares or odd looks I would get. Definitely a lot, if the person actually looked up from their machine. The music in this casino is hilarious. I have heard Britney's "Oops I Did It Again" and Len's "Steal My Sunshine". Throwback to 8th grade and watching The Box. At one point I thought maybe they threw a little Phoenix in there, but it was hard to tell over the ringing of the machines. After entering the bathroom, I discover it is not Phoenix, but instead The Brian Setzer Orchestra. I think. Add that to the throwback list. Oh my, in walks an old lady with drawn on eyebrows down to her cheekbones. Not even kidding. Concerts bring in a weird crowd of course, but I think casino crowds take the cake. Or the jackpot. You decide.

Recap: Round #2

Not too bad. But what the hell happened with Villanova AND Kansas?? The one good thing about this? I only had one of them in my final four and none of them in the final game, so it screwed up a lot of people's brackets. Perhaps I will still have a chance at winning something...All I know is my Dawgs are in the Sweet Sixteen and it feels so FANTASTIC!

Day #2 - Wins: 5, Losses: 3
The same? No way! The games today were way too close for my comfort. Michigan State gave me quite a scare, but ended with a 3-ball at the buzzer in the most intense ending I've ever seen. Unfortunately Texas A&M lost in overtime so there goes my Texas powerhouse that was going to take down Duke, who is also still in by annihilating Cal. Oh well...onto Round #3 on Thursday!

11 Things For Men

In response to my friend's blog, Tales From Washington D.C., and an article on MSN today titled "11 Secrets Men Don't Know About Women", I decided to share my thoughts on the topic. First of all, I don't really agree with many of the items on the MSN list. Except #11. Totally on board with that one. But #2, c'mon, I'm funnier than lots of guys. I agree with the first part of #8, but would never demand a valet. If I choose to wear uncomfortable shoes, I must be prepared to endure whatever the night brings. I don't know, maybe I'm just not high maintenance. And I love explosions.

So since I don't agree with the majority of the MSN ones, here are my own:
1. I'm pretty awesome. (read: pretty=extremely)
2. I like boys that a) play an instrument (preferably guitar), b) wear jewelry (nothing gaudy, but you know, a ring or a necklace of sorts) and c) have glasses. If you hit two of the three, I'm alright with that.
3. If you discuss music with me, you're in.
4. A sense of humor means everything.
5. You better feel lucky to be hanging out with me. If for no other reason than to know a girl that is just as excited to watch/listen to/argue about/play sports as you are.
6. I am super confident and I want you to be that way as well. Part of life is embarrassing yourself so laugh it off. It's no big deal. (Ask me about the time I spilled the soup.)
7. Dance! Even if you think you can't, there is no shame in simply moving back and forth with your hand on my waist. I'll do the rest.
8. I'm low maintenance. I don't need you to buy me flowers, candy and presents for all holidays. I don't need you to call me every day to see how my day was. What do I need? Just spend time with me every now and then. :)
9. Looks are not everything. Seriously.
10. A small gesture is just as good as a big one. An attempt at a gesture is just as good as a succeeding one.
11. If we get married (a huge "if" just in case my future husband is reading) we will be selecting a night every month or two to hang out, get a bit of a buzz on and be ridiculous. Probably we should do this before marriage too. Cause it's too good of an idea to wait.

Music Monday

If you know me at all, you know I think of music basically as emotions. So often times I try to take those emotions that music gives me and create art with them. It's usually pretty difficult, but I recently made this piece based off the lyrics from Coldplay's "Swallowed in the Sea". The interpretation is pretty literal and of course it didn't turn out exactly as I had planned (what art ever does?), but I still like it. I really like doing black pen drawings so I'm going to try and continue and make a series of these. Or something like that. Below is the song if you haven't heard it. It's amazing and tugs at your heart strings for sure.

Round Two, Day Two

SYRACUSE: Again, picked 'em to win it all. Smash those Zags.
OHIO STATE: This is a match-up where I actually picked both teams correctly from round one! And I think OSU is gonna keep going.
MICHIGAN STATE: I still think these guys got screwed with a 5 seed. They're better than that and going to prove it.
WEST VIRGINIA: Although I almost want to see Mizzou win (just cause it will be easier for my Dawgs next week), originally I obviously picked WVU as the dominant team.
WISCONSON: Originally I had them playing Temple and losing, but now versus Cornell I think they can win it.
PITTSBURGH: Another one that I didn't pick to move on because I thought they would play Minnesota. Oh well, I think they'll pull this one off versus Xavier.
TEXAS A&M: One of the Texas teams has to keep going and since it can't be my Longhorns, I guess it'll have to be these guys. Also I don't like Purdue.
DUKE: I picked Duke, but am secretly rooting for Cal because a) the Pac10 is so underrated and we need to prove everyone wrong (halfway there with our game yesterday), and b) my bracket is not looking too good anymore anyway, so I'll just root for the teams I like more.

Round Two

So, since my bracket it a bit messy and not all the teams I picked for round two are still in, I'm going to pick winners for all the games today regardless. The teams in Purple are the ones I picked that are still in it!

WASHINGTON: Hell yes. Dawgs are still in and I think they hype will continue for one more round. Especially cause New Mexico almost got taken down by Montana so I don't think they're as ballin' as a 3 seed should be.
VILLANOVA: Yeah, they're still in it! Hope they hold tough for one more round.
BUTLER: They can take Murray State. It'll be easier than Vandy.
OHIO: I did pick Tennessee to go to second round but they were supposed to face off with Georgetown. Now I pick Ohio to move on because they took down Georgetown.
KANSAS: They're in my final four so yeah, they're still going.
BAYLOR: See Kansas.
KANSAS STATE: I'm really sad that Florida didn't beat BYU, but now they'll be shown up by these guys.
KENTUCKY: This game SHOULD be UK vs Texas (*tears*)...but I still picked Kentucky to go farther.

So really, I only have one that I didn't pick on second round day one. Kinda awesome. Plus, I think my picks today are looking quite nice considering they're all the good teams. Ha ha! More madness to be had!

Recap of Round #1

So there were definitely some upsets, some triumphs and very few blow outs. This was the most intense first round ever. Overtimes, ties, multiple lead changes. This is why they call it MADNESS, people. Let's see how I did...

Day #1 - Wins: 10, Losses: 6
Not too bad considering some of the surprises that happened. Florida was so close to taking down BYU, but the double overtime proved too much for them. I have NO IDEA what happened to Georgetown, but they have screwed me up for the rest of the tourney. Old Dominion took down Notre Dame for me by a small margin of one point. But of course the most amazing victory of the day was my HUSKIES taking down Marquette in the last 10 seconds to beat them by two. It was a great day to be a basketball fan.

Day #2 - Wins: 11, Losses: 5
Well, better than day one anyways. I'm still mad that Gonzaga got away with a win. If Florida State had stepped up a bit earlier, they probably would have taken the win. Lots more close games including nail-biters with GT and Michigan State coming down to the wires, but both pulling off wins. I feel real bad for not sticking with my Pac10 blood and picking Cal cause they showed Louisville how us pacific coasters do it. I still can't believe Siena didn't upset Purdue. Since my bracket is a bit ruined now, I'm saying Pac10 and Syracuse all the way! Maybe...

The Madness: Day #2

After the most intense first day I've ever witnessed, here are my picks for round one, day two:

WEST VIRGINIA: A two seed versus a less popular 15th seed. And they're real good.
MINNESOTA: These guy have actually been kicking some major butt lately so I put a lot of faith in them to go far.
TEMPLE: These guys have so much history as being an awesome basketball team. I hope they are today!
SIENA: I don't like Purdue. And Siena has been in the tournament a lot so they know how it goes. Plus you gotta pick one huge upset.
MISSOURI: I just think they can pull it off over Clemson.
PITTSBURGH: I don't remember Oakland being in the tournament any time recently so I'm going to go with the experienced team.
WISCONSON: Who the hell is Woffard!?!
TEXAS A&M: Another power team from Texas. They'll do it.
FLORIDA STATE: I HATE Gonzaga. I hope they get blown out. They're a bunch of cocky brats. I will full on be cheering for those Seminoles.
GEORGIA TECH: This one was also hard to pick, but I think it will be an upset.
MICHIGAN STATE: I'm surprised this team isn't a higher seed. They are going to take down everyone in their path. They are insane.
DUKE: I don't really like them, but it's a number one seed and they'll at least win one.
SYRACUSE: I picked them to win the whole tournament. I think they'll have some anger in them for getting the fourth number one seed, so they're going to go on a killing spree and take it all.
OHIO STATE: These guys are awesome. 'Nuff said.
MARYLAND: See Ohio State.
LOUISVILLE: Sorry Cal, normally I would put my faith in the Pac10, but Louisville has been killing it lately. They swept Syracuse this year, and I think they're gonna sweep you up also.

Hello Sports Fans

Today marks round one of the NCAA March Madness Tournament. This is like Christmas for sports fans!!! Get your brackets ready for some intense games. Here is who I picked to win today and why:

WASHINGTON: Ok, how could I NOT pick my Dawgs? That's a given.
TEXAS: My second favorite team. So obviously I picked them too. Even though they've been kind of letting me down this season, not making their free throws and all, I'm at least giving them an in to the next round.
FLORIDA: It's not so much that I like Florida, it's that I don't like BYU. I think it goes back to when we lost to them by 1 point a couple seasons ago. Yeah, that was football and it wasn't really their fault, but I hold weird sports grudges for awhile.
OLD DOMINION: Again, Norte Dame is a rival. And I don't necessarily think they're all that great at basketball. I think they'll be surprised.
VILLANOVA: They're a 2 seed. And up against a very lesser known team. Trust me, popularity has a lot to do with it.
VANDERBILT: Again, the name thing. Pretty important. Who is Murray State?
KANSAS STATE: These guys have been kicking so much ass. They're going to go far.
BAYLOR: See Kansas State.
RICHMOND: This was a tough pick, but I went with these guys. I just think they're a bit better. Plus I'm very intrigued by their mascot.
BUTLER: Although UTEP has looked really promising, their most recent disappointing loss has forced me to pick Butler instead.
UNLV: For some reason, I always love this team. And always pick them to at least win first round.
KANSAS: If you don't know why I picked Kansas, then you're not a sports fan. But if you're still reading this far I'll let you know, very rarely does a 16 seed upset a number 1 seed in the first round. Especially if it's Kansas, the best team in the country.
GEORGETOWN: These guys have been pretty on this year. I'm still mad that they beat us in the Wooden Classic, but you know, they're an awesome team so I will root for them.
KENTUCKY: Again, rarely is there an upset of a 1 seed in first round.
NEW MEXICO: So, they'll make it through the first round and then my Dawgs will beat them next round. Plus, Montana? I didn't know they had sports there. Just farming.
TENNESSEE: This was my most difficult choice of the entire first round. Tennessee has been on and off this season and their opponents have been pretty good. But I'm taking the Vols. Maybe it's their awesome warm-ups that I love so much.

So there we have it. Carly's first round day one picks. So much basketball enjoyment to be had today!!

So after a week of becoming a texting master (or really just figuring out the right time to press "send"), I got on the list to see The Temper Trap at the new Hard Rock Cafe in Seattle. Let me just say, all that texting was totally worth it. These guys RIPPED!! Before going, I was only familiar with one of their songs, "Sweet Disposition", which is kind of a lower key song. But if I like one song, I'll give them a try (especially live and if it's free). They opened up with the most awesome guitar solo. It was insane. That definitely got my attention and it only got better from there. Talk about people who enjoy what they do. No joke, I've seen bands where their guitar players just kinda stand there and play, but each of these guys totally got into their gig. Especially their lead who was amazing and has a really powerful voice. Although their most famed song was a big hit with the crowd, I really enjoyed a new one they played called "Robin Hood". It started out with just the lead and his acoustic guitar and built in tension from there and eventually erupted. (See my post about Silversun Pickups "Growing Old is Getting Old".) It was a really moving performance. I also really liked the Hard Rock venue. It was very small and intimate if you like the feeling of reaching out and touching the band from the bar. Of course, like most venues, the floor is flat so if you're not standing in the front row it is slightly difficult to see, but it's mostly about what you hear anyways. I took some photos and I'll repost with them later! Thanks to 107.7 The End for putting this one. I'm so psyched about the concert line ups that are on tap for spring and summer. The way to my heart is through music and I intend to fill it up!

Italian Wedding Soup

Last night I made a most delicious Italian Wedding Soup for dinner. And probably for a few more meals after that seeing as there are lots of leftovers. This is everyone's favorite soup and it is so easy to make. I highly recommend it for any time of year. The recipe is as follows:

4 oz. italian sausage
8 cups chicken stock
6 oz. chicken breast
1 cup chopped escarole
1 cup confetti pasta
2 eggs, lightly beaten
salt and pepper to taste

Cook the sausage in a pan and set aside. Boil and cook the pasta in a small saucepan until al dente and set aside. Boil the chicken stock in a large saucepan. Add sausage and chicken and heat for 15 minutes. After, add the pasta, escarole, salt and pepper. Slowly pour in eggs so it forms small strings. Voila! You're done! Simple and delicious.

What!? Free shows!? I love going to concerts, but they are expensive! That is why I love 107.7 The End for hosting two free shows coming up in the next couple months. The only issue is that I have to get quicker at texting because apparently that's a requirement to get on the list. But I'm still positive. The first show features Temper Trap (right) and it'll be at the new Hard Rock Seattle on Monday. I would love to see them because their music is so mystical and I think it would be amazing to see live. Their hit "Sweet Disposition" is definitely worth checking out. The second show features Civil Twilight, a rather new band whose single "Letters From The Sky" is becoming very popular. They are playing at the High Dive in Fremont (so close to my hood!) in April and I imagine it will be just as difficult to get on the list, but I'm gonna try! No matter how many text or tweets it takes...

I am so happy that the weather is already so beautiful outside. Last year, it took way too long and I took off for South America before I got to experience any warmth. And then when I was in South America, I also didn't get to experience any warmth. So I am very thankful that it seems to be coming early this year. One thing I am most excited about is going golfing! I really miss the days of being on my high school team, getting to play every day and competing against other schools. I still love to play, but I never went last year and I'm anxious to see how well I do this year. I have some redemption to do versus the older brother and I think I can take him. I got a hand-me-down driver from my dad and I think it's going to help. Let's go!

Silly Sightings

I went to the UW vs. Oregon women's basketball today. I am not afraid to admit that women's basketball usually brings in a weird crowd, but today there were a couple other sightings that were out of the norm.

Olympics Guy: Two rows in front of me sat a guy decked out in full Olympic gear. He had the Canada track jacket and his newsboy cap covered in Olympic pins. Now, sure, the jacket is acceptable to wear all the time, and even the cap without the pins, but I feel like with all the pins on it, it's a little much. Honestly, it's like if a boy scout wore their sash around just because. Maybe he needs it for a conversation piece. But I mean, can you imagine walking up to him and saying "Hey, did you go to the Olympics!?" I can think of two possible answers to that: a) "Duh..." or b) "No..." I would almost be willing to bed that guy's answer would be the latter in which case wearing all that stuff would be even worse. Ha ha!

Shirtless Fans: Usually during men's games, the student section is Dawg PACKED. (zing!) But at women's...yeah, no not so much. So when you have a group of students who are very supportive and shirtless, they stick out a bit more than usual. I've seen them before, but today their group looked a bit slim...in more ways than one. Instead of six, the group had dwindled down to three. This caused a few problems, one being they didn't have enough people to spell anything out so they were just plain shirtless. No chest art or anything. Secondly, they looked like the AT&T bars standing up. Starting on the left with short and progressively getting taller. I know this can happen just any old time, but seriously, they were perfectly separated by size. The medium guy was equally taller than the short guy as the tall guy was taller than the medium guy. It was weird. Thirdly, the poor short guy. I felt like, since they couldn't get the whole group together, they invited along a little brother that hadn't quite finished puberty. I mean, he had showings of some chest hair, but was so small. And his pants were so high. A word to these boys: don't get me wrong, the support is awesome...but sometimes shirts are alright.

Basketball Coverage

Why wasn't the UW vs. Oregon game televised!?!?! Seriously, I had to listen to it on (very poor) radio coverage. What century are we living in? There are 800 sports channels on TV and not one of them was available to air the game? You've got to be kidding me. Oregon obviously sucks and does not deserve to be aired, but we do not! And I really wanted to see the complete and utter domination that we pulled off. Not to mention Q-Pon's 326 or so dunks he had. Man!

In the mail last week, I received a $25 iTunes gift card which I was very happy to spend almost immediately. Of course I had certain things that I knew I needed in my library, but I didn't want to miss out on anything that I might not have thought of or known about. So I texted my friend who has almost identical taste as I do in music and asked him what songs I should purchase. Almost immediately I get a text back with this song so I listened to the little 30 second preview, purchased it, and have been playing it non-stop ever since. This song is so inspiring and just makes you want to be a great person. K'naan is from Mogadishu, Somalia and lived there during a war so you can imagine where the inspiration and lyrical genius comes from. Now a resident of Canada, he got to perform during the Olympics and I think his popularity will only increase from here. If you want to learn more about him, visit his website! This is probably my most favorite word in the English language. Seriously, just say it over and over. Blimp. Blimp. Blimp. It has a great combinations of consonants with popping noises that make it fun to say. What an impact it has. Blimp.

I was really happy that the Vancouver 2010 Olympics decided to go out with a laugh. Playing off their mishap in the opening ceremony, bringing in comedians for one of a kind speeches, and definitely the most laugh out loud...the giant inflatable beavers. I mean, who didn't crack up when they saw these huge furry creatures come out onto the ice? Proving that you're always good for a laugh, nice work Canada.

Valentine's Day

As my usual Valentine's date has moved across the country and abandoned me here, I went to go see Valentine's Day with my mom. This movie is being taken down by reviews, saying that the story lines are kind of buzz kills and don't have the happy endings that you would expect from this kind of movie. But to be honest, that is what I liked about it! The relationships, the jobs, the situations, everything was real. Things fell apart, there were main characters working in a mail room, it was just a very real movie showing how things actually happen. And you were still left feeling good at the end. Things I hate about the "chick-flicks" if you will is that they play up these situations that just never happen. In my mind they make girls think these magical guys exist and have these huge expectations that these normal and perfectly good guys can't live up to. I recommend this movie if you're a down-to-earth person who understands not all relationships are perfect, but still believe that they can work in strange ways. My one complaint: not enough Bradley Cooper. Ha ha!

USA vs Canada: Gold Medal Hockey

Even though my team came in second (and I lost $50), the gold medal hockey game between USA and Canada was probably one of the most exciting sporting events I have ever watched. Both teams played so well and the intensity level was at it's highest. Congrats to Canada for the gold, but also congrats to Ryan Miller, the hockey MVP of the Olympics. Well deserved.

A Video Hilarity

Tonight, I was flipping through the cable guide and seeing what was on and I noticed that "Hot Rod" was going to be on TV and immediately hit the record button due to my undying love for Andy Samberg (he is even one of my five celebrities I'm allowed to sleep with). Since it had been awhile since I had seen it the first time, I was excited to watch again. Now, I measure the quality of a funny movie by how often I laugh out loud depending on two factors: a) am I sober? and b) am I alone? So since both of those answers were "yes" this evening and I still am laughing out loud many, many times, this movie gets top scores for funny. The scene above caused me to cry from laughing so hard. If anyone else can dance like Kevin (the guy in the orange/yellow striped shirt) I may marry you. But remember, I'm still allowed to sleep with Andy Samberg should the opportunity arise.

Lights That Are Not Synced Up

Oh yeah. I'm driving along and driving along and driving along and...oh wait. No. I'm driving along for a block and *EEEER* brakes. Red light. So then I wait until it turns green and I go another block and *EEEER* brakes. Red light. Then AGAIN. Same thing. Seriously, why on earth can't they sync up the lights!? I mean, it's real convenient to stop every block right? And appreciate the scenery? Good for the environment, the brakes, the road rage. I just love yelling at things in my car. I bet you can just picture me..."Goddamnit!!! Why am I stopping again!?!? Stupid lights!!" Isn't this someone's job to actually figure these things out? Where are you guys? Fix this. Or I will find you. And make you stop walking every five feet. See how you like it.

The 2010 Sasquatch Festival line-up was announced recently and let me just say how pissed off I am that I am broke and can't afford tickets. So basically I will be playing radio contest games until I am awarded with them. Every single day is going to be good and features some of my favorites like Vampire Weekend, Band of Horses, MGMT and........THE NATIONAL!!!! I at least need to go on the Saturday to see them. Hiatus: I Hate Us

So clearly I've been missing for a week or so. Well you know, things happen. But I've been very, very busy sleeping in and sitting on the couch. I've been waiting to hear back from some jobs and haven't been away from my phone. Cause you know, if you don't answer when they call you back then they'll figure "oh, she can't answer her phone so obviously she can't handle this job." Being readily available is obviously a quality that people look for in their new hires. I went to the gym a couple times. That must be why I haven't been hired. Because they knew deep down I did something other than waiting for the phone to ring. I did something to take my mind off things. And they still didn't call. You know what?! I'm starting to think I didn't get this job...Even so. I now have time to wait for another one. What other activities can I do involving waiting around? Maybe knitting? Or watching really disappointing basketball like the Huskies played tonight. Or drinking. Which I also did tonight. Don't talk to me. I'm too depressed.

I can't believe I missed Music Monday last week! I'm slacking. So this week, you get two songs. I cannot say enough times how in love with Silversun Pickups I am. I cannot wait to see them live because I'm pretty sure it will be the greatest concert ever (and it doesn't help that they're opening for Muse). I posted earlier "Growing Old Is Getting Old" which is a great song, but here are a couple other favorites from their Swoon album.

"The Royal We" - Another completely powerful song that gives me goosebumps every time. Also a great song for the treadmill. Plus the line "That's when we fell in love but not the first time" really gets to me. Wow.

"Catch and Release" - This song is so sexy. I cannot think of a better word to describe it. It's slower than most of their songs and I always love a band who can slow things down from their loudness. Plus, again, the lyrics...mmm. They definitely remind me of things going on in my life and are super hot. This might be a good song to listen to while...well, you know.

Seriously, these guys are great. Just buy the whole album already.

I Was, I Am, I Want To Be

To please my little friend who writes Tales from Washington D.C. and is also a fellow sister, I'm going to participate in our old ADPi tradition of a fireside. However, I'm writing it a bit differently than her. She started with "I Am" but I feel like the past should come first!

I was...disappointed. In myself, in others, in life. Looking for a job takes so much out of people and you interview for things you think you deserve and realize there are millions of other that also deserve it. Or you're trying to solve a problem with a friend. Things just seem to not work out and it's hard to not think negative thoughts sometimes. However now...

I am...so nervous, excited, terrified and incredibly happy with things that are unraveling in my life. My relationships with people are better than ever. And things can only go up. I'm very lucky and sometimes have a hard time not smiling. I have been interviewing for a job I really want (and need) and am about to hear back soon. My stomach is in knots. I can't wait to hear because...

I want to be...employed. It would truly solve a lot. And it would be great! I am soooo ready. I deserve this.

Sisters, we should probably create more firesides for blog posts. Yes?

Oh my. These warm-ups are hilarious. As I was watching basketball today, they showed a clip of Tennessee in the locker room during their pre-game chat and I saw these and pretty much cracked up. This is the best photo I could find, but in the locker room, they were definitely wearing striped shirts to match. Seriously, they look like creamsicles. I think they should consider changing their mascot. Especially because their mascot right now is the Volunteers. With these outfits, what can you volunteer for? The circus? I found out they are a homage to an old coach or something, but why? Was he striped too? Seriously, these are great. They give Oregon football jerseys a run for their money.

One-colored Outfits

Alright, I am a firm believer in matching outfits. And similar colors. But I don't understand one-colored outfits. At the blood bank a couple weeks ago, a woman was wearing a bright pink sweater and as she stands up, I notice her pants are, surprise!, the same color. Really? I don't even know where to find these things. Do they sell them together in stores or catalogs? I'm not sure. Why not just wear a unitard? I'm sorry. I just don't get it. Mix it up people.

Wednesdays have become trivia days, as a group of us head to Kangaroo & Kiwi. I've played trivia a few times before, but last night was legendary as our team took second place!! I was super excited about it especially because I actually played a big part in the win. We were missing our two sports guys, but I managed to pull out some answers in spite of their absence. Also, they had a couple questions on South America where I came in handy. It was an awesome night and can't wait to go back next week and take first!!

Celebrity Sighting

Ok, so not a celebrity, but almost as cool!! I was driving home from the airport today and a bald eagle swooped down and picked something off the side of the road!! I'd never seen one so close before. I usually only see them from a far far distance through binoculars or something. You never really see them so close to civilians, much less in traffic. I just thought this was so awesome.

Music Monday

The Grammys are always full of fantastic performances, but this year I have to say my favorite was Green Day's performance of their song "21 Guns" featuring the cast of the new Broadway musical "American Idiot". I'm not even a huge fan of Green Day, but the whole combination of the chorus and band together was very moving. I would actually be interested in seeing the musical after that performance.

As far as the awards go, many won that deserved it. But I was so bummed that Silversun Pickups didn't win Best New Artist. I mean, obviously I'm biased because they have entered my top three favorite bands, but I really thought they deserved to take that one home. Especially since I hadn't even heard of the other band... I was also disappointed that The Lonely Island didn't take home Best Rap/Sung Collaboration for "I'm On A Boat", but the fact that it went to someone else was a little more understandable than the other category.

Fake Tanning

No, it's gross. If you live in Seattle in the winter time you're supposed to be white and pasty. So if you're walking around looking like an orange, you're doing something wrong. It's one thing if you go on vacay somewhere to get a nice coat, but people can tell the difference. This isn't Jersey Shore people. Seattle is a classy place. Some things from a box are okay. Hey! That's My Car!!

Last night, I was leaving a bar and taking a walk back to my car when I saw another car beginning to park in front of me. It was a parallel situation so of course I was watching to make sure he didn't give me a little tap on my front bumper. The car finishes parking and I see a guy get out of the front seat and another guy bolt out from the passenger side and walk over to the front wheel of my car and lean up against it. His hands were in a very suggestive position so my immediate thought was "Holy crap, that guy is going to pee on my car!!" So I totally yelled at him, "HEY!! THAT'S MY CAR!!" and he jumped back screaming "Holy shit!!" and made for a quick get away with his driver friend. (Only after this happened did a back seat passenger get out of the car and join them...) Next time, try the bushes dude.

Something That Has Been Bothering Me...

WHY DON'T THE VAMPIRES IN TWILIGHT HAVE TO ASK PERMISSION TO ENTER A HOME?? Everyone, well I guess everyone except Stephenie Meyer, knows that vampires are not allowed to enter a home without being invited! It's the same in all stories. "Vampire Diaries": nope, can't come in. "Dracula": same story. "True Blood": invisible brick wall. "Buffy the Vampire Slayer": yeah right Spike. I used to be a pretty big fan of Buffy, before vampires were the big thing to be, watch, do...whatever. This was where I learned about vampires. And "Twilight" is not educating the young ones well. Honestly, when I picked up the first book to read it (I'll admit it, I've read 3 of 4), I was expecting the invitation tradition to hold true. But no, here comes Edward hopping into Bella's window in the middle of the night. What makes the Cullen's so special? Epic fail? Maybe.

Blood Bank

With this tragedy in Haiti, I've felt kind of sad that I have no money to donate to them to help out. (Being unemployed doesn't provide for a lot of spare cash.) But last week I got an email saying that the Puget Sound Blood Center was at an all time low of my blood type and they needed me to come in and donate. So on Friday I made an appointment with the blood bank and finally donated my eighth pint of blood, putting me up to ONE GALLON! That's right, I have officially donated an entire gallon of blood. And I'm not stopping there. I've already made my next appointment to give again in March. It makes me feel good to know that I can help in some way, even if it is not for Haiti or is not in dollars. (Plus, I know this makes me weird, but I actually enjoy it!) So, if you have some spare time, and some spare blood, please go donate. If for no other reason than the free cookies and juice you get at the end. You'll feel good. I promise.

Sporting Events

Now, those who know me know that I am a die-hard sports fan. Especially when it comes to football and my Huskies. So when I am at these games in the fall, sporting my purple and gold and cheering them on, there are a few things that confuse me. As a forward I should note: I don't believe in being impartial when attending a sporting event. Choose a side.

1. Girls in heels. Seriously? Did you know where your man was taking you before you left the house today? If not, then I apologize. But if you knew you were coming to a football game, why did you wear your five inch heels? Football games (all sporting events really) are for jumping, cheering, drinking and spilling mustard from cheap hot dogs on your outfit. It's not a fashion show runway. Unless you count the hike up to your nose bleed seats a runway. How can you properly stand up and cheer without falling over in those? Cause I guarantee you also had a few drinks before the game.

2. People NOT wearing colors of the teams playing. Alright, I get that maybe some people go to these games without the proper attire. Maybe a friend invited you and you didn't have anything to wear. Fine. Two solutions: a) Borrow a shirt from your friend. If they're a big fan, it's likely that they have more than one, or b) Wear a neutral color. Black, white, gray. All are acceptable. One of the football games I went to this year, I saw a girl dressed in all pink. I really wanted to ask her if she knew where she was, or if she was just lost because the Barbie convention was in a different building. But honestly, you don't bother me as much as the next people...

3. People wearing team jerseys of other teams not playing. BIGGEST PET PEEVE EVER!! Up here in Washington, we have a little triangle of a rivalry between UW (the best), WSU and Oregon. So, imagine my shock when I am going to the UW vs. Oregon game and I see a guy decked out in his WSU gear. Who is this guy? Who is this guy??? First of all, WSU is not playing today, second of all, both of the teams that are playing HATE your team! Those are some pretty large crimson and silver balls you have down there. But it gets better. Inside the stadium, I'm walking to my seat and see a guy in full blown TEXAS gear...TEXAS!! Now, I love Texas football, but I'm sorry sir, you are at a UW vs. Oregon game. Do you take the wrong flight and end up at the wrong game or what? This is Washington. It's great that you love Texas, but that does not help us to understand who you're rooting for here. Seriously people, same rules apply. If you don't have the gear, black, white, gray.

They actually remind me of the cartoon "Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends" that is on right now. They have a similar type of simplistic cartoonism (ooo, did I just create a word?) that I really like. Kind of interesting. :)

A Job Search Hilarity

Searching for jobs can be frustrating, stressful and worrisome. But it can also be very hilarious. I've been applying for quite an array of positions just to see what I can get a bite on. Recently, I applied for a simple Receptionist position at this store. Later, I receive an email saying they would like to bring me in for an interview and the lady gives me a long list of interview times during this week and next. I promptly wrote back saying I was available for an interview anytime on Monday. (I volunteer at a school and since there was no school on Monday, it was perfect.) A few minutes later, I receive a confirmation saying I was penciled in for an interview on Tuesday @ 12:30am.........Whaaaat? I just kind of stared at the screen for a minute thinking "Okay...." I mean, she did ask when I could come in, right? And when would be the best time for me, right? Did I answer correctly? So all of a sudden, I have this interview on Tuesday instead. Not only that, no joke, it really did say 12:30AM. Obviously a typo, but seriously. That's a pretty extreme oops. And this isn't the first time I've seen this! So...there will probably be more of these stories. :)
